2026 Environmental Protection Dialogue
Safeguarding Our Future: Addressing the Impact of Environmental Degradation in Zambia.

CEJ with its cooperating partners are scheduled to host the 6th Environmental Protection Dialogue dubbed “EPD2026” from the 14th to 16th October 2026 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Kenneth Kaunda Wing in Lusaka, Zambia under the theme: “SAFEGURDING OUR FUTURE: ADDRESSING THE IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION IN ZAMBIA”.
Delegates
The EPD2026 will bring together 600 physical delegates comprising of government line ministries, civil society organisations, private sector, UN agencies, regional bodies, international organisations, foreign dignitaries, traditional leaders, community-based organisations, faith-based organisations, civil leaders, environmental legal practitioners, environmental activists, academia, youth and women associations, and the media.
Overall Goal
Ensure the safe and sustainable storage of mining waste, protecting the environment, human health, and local communities, while promoting responsible and sustainable mining practices.
Objectives
- Promote and showcase the best practices in designing and constructing tailing dams with robust safety measures to minimize the risk of failure.
- Promote engagement of local communities and stakeholders to address concerns and ensure that their rights are respected.
- Advocate for regular monitoring and maintenance to ensure the structural integrity of tailings dams.
- Advocate for stronger regulations and enforcement mechanisms to prevent tailings failure and collapse.
- Build strong partnerships for the future EPD hosting and implementation of resolutions.
